Barry Mayfield

Senior Pastor

"Therefore I urge you brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual act of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable, and perfect."

Romans 12:1-2

About Pastor Barry

THANK YOU FOR VISITING US!

Pastor Barry Mayfield began his ministry at Grassy Valley Baptist Church in 1989 as a lay youth director for 3 years and then served at West Park Baptist as lay-pastor in the youth department from 1992-1998. Barry received his ordination in 1999 under the leadership of Pastor Sam Polson, West Park Baptist Church and Dr. Rob White, Parkway Baptist Church, where he would become the full-time Youth Pastor of Middle School & High School Students for thirteen (13) years.

During his leadership as Youth Pastor, Barry recognized the need and began the vision to strengthened and grow this department, he challenged both teens and adults in their spiritual walk. He firmly believed in the importance of a strong leadership team and implemented a youth staff of fourteen (14) adults to serve alongside during these years. God moved in a tremendous way during this season. Together, this team watched the students grow spiritually, numerically and morally.

While at West Park Baptist, Barry and Jill became involved in Smoky Mountain Youth Conference (SMYC… aka Boot Camp), they worked alongside the leaders and in 2004 accepted the leadership role as Director while at Parkway. SMYC was a weekend retreat which hosted up to 1000 teens/ 50 churches across the Southeast United States.

From 2004-2011 Barry served in dual roles as Associated Pastor and Youth Pastor when God called him to plant a church (Center Faith) in the Hardin Valley area. The church met at Pellissippi State college for 7 years and then obtained their facility in the Karns community.

WHO IS BARRY MAYFIELD?

·         I am a native of Knoxville, Tn. I grew up with values of hard work, family, and church. I was 17 years old when my mom gained her entrance into heaven. At the time I was not a Christian, and after her passing I was filled with anger and confusion, all directed towards God. But I still continued to ask God WHY? WHY? Little did I know that through her passing that I would eventually find Christ through new relationships that he brought into my life, that would never have happened if He had not called her home.  I accepted Christ after her passing at a revival with the simple message of two (2) ships… Ship Zion and Ship Death. What ship would I be on when my time was finished. My mom was a strong example of how to live and die gracefully.

·         My wife Jill is hands down the most amazing woman in my life. Jill is my prayer warrior; my best friend and I have been privileged that she has served alongside me during my entire ministry. We have been married since 1982 and are blessed with two beautiful and uniquely gifted children: Crystal (Casey) Caldwell and Brenna (Kristopher) Cope. I am a very proud “Poppi” (Grandfather) to 3 grand-daughters: Aria, Carlee and Riley. They all melt my heart and I love and adore them very much and I know I am a very blessed man.

RANDOM BARRY FACTS:

·         I love the mountains and the beach with  it’s mesmerizing sunsets

·         I am an avid UT sports fan

·         I love to travel and experience the food of the places we visit

·         Fishing and being on the lake are a “Go-To” for me

·         Driving the tractor, because it has great childhood memories

DESCRIBE A PERFECT DAY.

A perfect day would be slow paced, outdoors with beautiful weather, lots of present moments with my family, time on the boat/fishing, maybe a nap and always…good food.

HOW DID YOU FIND YOUR PRESENT ROLE AT CENTER FAITH?

God brought Center Faith to me! I had been in youth ministry for 22 years, I felt a change happening and asked the Lord- where and how do you want me to serve? I had always felt when my time as a youth pastor was complete, we would be on the mission field. So, began the intense prayer and talks with the Lord. I did more of the talking and God just kept saying… be still and listen. It wasn’t until almost 2 years later that God placed the call to plant a church. And so, the journey began and in 2011 Center Faith officially launched.

WHAT IS YOUR BELIEF ON MISSIONS?

I fervently believe in Matthew 28:16-20, the Great Commission of the church is to go and make disciples of every man. Jill and my first mission trip was to Belize in 1999 and since then God has allowed us to experience and lead multiple trips to Belize, Mexico, Czech Republic, Guatemala, and Peru

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT CENTER FAITH?

First let me say that CF has impacted my life in so many ways. My relationship with God and my faith in God has grown exponentially.

I have found lifelong friends. I have heard all my life that church is a family, but I have been a part of churches that it did not truly feel like a family. Ii can honestly say that the people at Center Faith are truly family.

My favorite part of what I do is empowering leaders and seeing that leader own the vision and make decisions.

I also love seeing people go on a foreign mission trip for the first time and watching it change their lives forever.

WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO SCRIPTURE VERSE THAT CONTINUES TO SPEAK POWER TO YOUR LIFE?

Romans 12:1-2

New International Version

A Living Sacrifice

12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

WHAT IS THE VISION FOR THE CHURCH?

From the beginning of the birth of Center Faith Church, the vision was to draw people who had been hurt by a church or had never had any interest in church or Christ to come sit and fill the chairs, and that has not changed. To live out our mission statement of “Doing life together as we proclaim God’s glory.” And after these first few years, the vision is to be a light to the Karns community and beyond. That our people’s light would burn bright, and continue to grow in numbers and in the depth of our faith on this journey.
